Happy April!

The mini tier pattern this month is Janie doll from Toy Story.

This project is not an overly complicated one, it is crocheted in a very similar way to how I did Dolly. Fortunately for me, this project does enable the use of mixed media which was fun.

The facial features are very simple. As you can see, it is just buttons for the eyes and embroidered yarn for the mouth.

To try and achieve the same look and texture for the hair I dug deep into my stash to find some yellow super chunky yarn. I don’t remember why I even brought this yarn but am so thankful that it finally came in use.

I did not have the right coloured yarn for the mouth, which is a sort of apricot colour, so I just used my eyeshadow to tint it into the correct shade. This worked much better than I expected. I used the same eyeshadow in a different colour to apply blush to the cheeks.

For the mouth I used a needle felting needle so that I could achieve the nice smooth curve to the mouth which is difficult to do when stitching.

Something that I will do differently when I make Janie Doll again is that I will use a different method of colour change. I would like to use the method where you crochet into the back loop to give the illusion of straighter and crisper edges to my colour changes. Apart from that, I am very happy with the way that this project turned out.

Janie Doll’s overall measurements are 8.5 inches / 21.5 cm tall and 6.5 inches / 16.5 cm wide (arm span).
