One’s Creative Mind Patreon Membership and How it Can Benefit You

Good morning everyone!!

There are still many people who are unfamiliar with what Patreon is and how it works. The purpose of this post is to explain what Patreon is, why I have chosen to use it and let you know exactly what content it will give you access to. You can click the headings below to page jump to your chosen section.

June 2021 Update: I have updated this post to include up-to-date information in regards to some major changes that I have made to my Patreon page.

What is Patreon?

What do you get with the mini and midi tiers?

Can you cancel your pledge?

Why am I using Patreon?

What patterns are available with a Patreon subscription?

What are the next 6 months of Patreon content?

Would you like an amigurumi masterclass?

 What is Patreon?

Patreon is a membership-based platform that allows people to earn money by providing others with access to the things that they love to create. This could be music, artwork, podcasts, tutorials, behind the scenes vlog content, etc. On my Patreon page, I provide access to my amigurumi character crochet patterns. It lets people pledge a certain amount of money each month to support their favourite creators. For example, it works like a monthly subscription to Netflix where you pay £12 a month and gains access to their content.

The pledge amount is dependent on the tiers that the creator has provided. These tiers give you a certain level of access and perks. The money helps us, the creators, to buy things such as supplies, tools, services, etc. so we can continue to bring you amazing content. It also compensates us in part for our time and effort. In return for the support and commitment that you make you are rewarded with perks. If you subscribe to my mini tier the are a number of perks that you will receive.

What do you get with the mini and midi tiers?

When you sign up for my Patreon, each month I release 2 posts, one mini tier pattern and one midi tier pattern. You also instantly gain access to ALL of my previously posted patterns for that tier.

If you subscribe to the mini tier by making a pledge of £3 ($4.50) per month you will get the following:

  • Access to ALL of my mini tier character-based crochet patterns – such as Super Mario and Toy Story (which as of December 2021 is 28 patterns).
  • a new pattern each month
  • 10% discount in my Etsy store

If you subscribe to the midi tier by making a pledge of £5 ($7.50) per month you will get the following:

  • Access to ALL of my mini tier character-based crochet patterns – such as Super Mario and Toy Story (which as of December 2021 is 28 patterns).
  • Access to ALL of my midi tier Disney Princesses series crochet patterns – such as Princess and the Frog, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin (which as of December 2021 is 26 patterns).
  • TWO new patterns each month – one mini tier pattern and one midi tier pattern.
  • 20% discount in my Etsy store
  • Advanced previews of all my crochet projects

Prior to my decision to use Patreon I was posting my character based amigurumi for free on my website as part of my Freebie Friday series (Winnie the Pooh, Looney Tunes and Super Mario phase 1). This will no longer happen and instead, my future character-based patterns will be exclusive content to my patrons only.

Patterns for any original crochet designs that I come up with are available to purchase in my Etsy store. As a patron, you will get money off everything in my store which can also be used on sale items.

 Can you cancel your pledge?

Yes, you can. There is no contract, membership is on a month to month basis and you can cancel your pledge at any time.

 Why am I using Patreon?

I have decided to use Patreon because over the last year I have spent countless hours typing up the patterns I make in order for others to enjoy making them as much as I did. There are website hosting fees of £20 per month, I take pictures and type up tutorials. I also work full time so all of this is done after work and even over the weekend – which eats into the time that I spend with my son. In a previous post, ‘An Introduction to One’s Creative Mind’, I explained why I didn’t want to sell trademarked character patterns. Instead, I stated that I would post them for free and place a Paypal donate button on my site to allow people to make a donation as a thank you for my time and effort.

If you crochet you a fully aware of the time and energy that it takes to crochet a pattern let alone type it up and make it into a tutorial for others to follow. However, despite over 40,000 views and I have only received 36 thank yous and ZERO donations. I found that over time I was less and less motivated to spend my time writing up the patterns and posting them online. I started having to force myself to complete them and it all began to feel like a chore.

This is where using Patreon came into play. People gain access after making a donation. People who fully appreciate and recognise the hard work and effort that I put into what I do subsequently make the decision to support me. Having these people to deliver to each month has given me that drive back. I am back to working hard, coming up with new ideas and planning future content.

On another note…Would you like an amigurumi masterclass?

I am no expert when it comes to crocheting but I feel like I have come a very long way in just 3 years. Followers on Instagram ask me questions like what yarn I use, how I make my amigurumi so neat and how I create my amigurumi. Due to this, I am thinking about creating a masterclass series with all the tips, tricks and techniques that I use so that others can look at pictures and also create their own characters. I plan to show and explain what series of stitches you need to do in order to give you certain shapes. After some practise you will be able to look at an imagine and figure out what stitches you need to make to give you your desired outcome. I can include the step by step process of how I break down an image in order to crochet it, as well as reference pictures of the various shapes and related stitches. Is this something that you would like to see on my Patreon page or Youtube channel? It would likely be a video series so I could show exactly what to do and how to do it.

If you can, let me know your thoughts on this idea and if you have anything in particular that you would like to see or learn from this series. It is still in the planning stages but I will keep you up to date with my progress.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for taking the time out to read my post.
