Happy First of the Month!
This month marks the beginning of my Toy Story series, and I am thrilled to finally get started. (Although, to be fair, I am always excited when beginning a new project.) The pattern I am kicking things off with is the Alien! I am very pleased with how he turned out and hope to maintain the same level of likeness with the other characters I create for the series.
The only thing missing from my Alien at the moment is the logo on his shirt. I plan to add this detail later, once I have completed more characters. My plan is to print all the small embellishments at once using t-shirt transfer paper. I am being particularly conservative with the transfer paper, as it can be quite pricey, and I would rather not waste any of it.
In terms of construction, the arms on this pattern did not need to be sewn on — they were worked directly into the body through the pattern. The only part I needed to sew on was the ears. For the eyes and eyelids, I used felt glue to attach them. This has been my go-to method recently when working with small or fiddly elements. It saves time, which is invaluable when you have 10-week-old twins at home. I also find that the craft glue I use (Beacon 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue) holds very securely and meets my standards for durability.
Typically, I make most of my characters (with the exception of my Disney Princess patterns) using DK yarn and either a 3 mm or 2.5 mm hook. Then, when it is time to record tutorials, I recreate the design using 4ply cotton yarn. However, for this Alien, I started directly with 4ply cotton yarn and a 2 mm hook — which is also what the listed materials will recommend. That said, you are welcome to use whichever yarn and hook size you prefer.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Just a quick note to let you know that my crochet patterns are typically shared as posts rather than PDFs, unless specifically stated otherwise.
Also, please keep in mind that, just like my pattern posts for my Patreon subscribers, not all of these patterns have been formally tested. While I strive for accuracy, there may be minor typos or small errors. I work to correct any issues as soon as they are brought to my attention.
Doing it this way allows me to post two patterns a month because they are quicker to produce, are easily accessible and ready to view directly on my page. The posts can be printed if you wish. Unlike subscribers who lose access to posts if the subscription ends, posts that are purchased will have lifetime access.
If you’re comfortable with this and excited to start creating, my crochet patterns are perfect for you!
