Koopa Troopa Crochet Pattern

Good Morning!

The assembly for this pattern can be quite fiddly but it is well worth it. My Koopa Troopa is sort of a combination of my Buzzle Beetle, Wiggler and Birdo patterns – with a few new elements thrown into the mix. This resulted in a nice and quick turn around time for this character.

This pattern does require the use of wire through the head and body for support to keep the head up. However, I didn’t need to use wire for the arms and legs.

The approximate measurements using DK yarn and 3mm hook are 8.25 inches height, 6 inches width and 4 inches length/depth.

  • DK yarn (yellow, green, white and beige)
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Fire retardant Fibrefill
  • Felt (black)
  • Felt glue
  • Scissors
  • Craft wire
  • Pliers
  • Pins (optional)
  • Stitch marker (optional)

  • MR# – magic ring with the specified number of single crochets
  • SC – single crochet (double crochet English)
  • HDC – half double crochet (half treble English)
  • INC – single crochet increase
  • #in1 – the specified number of SC in the same stitch (i.e. 3in1)
  • DEC – invisible decrease
  • *_______* X# – repeat sequence within the asterisks the specified number of times e.g. *SC, INC* x6)
  • FLO – front loop only
  • BLO – back loop only
  • CC – colour change
  • CH – chain stitches
  • CH1T – chain a stitch then turn your work
  • ST/STS – stitch/stitches
  • FO – fasten off

Did you find this pattern easier or harder than you expected? Were the hands complicated?  Either way, if you made this little guy I hope that you are happy with the way that he turned out.

Until the next post, happy crocheting!
