Happy May!

This month’s Midi tier pattern is Toddler Moana.

Toddler Moana is the first child doll base that I have made from all my Disney characters. I cannot believe that I made it this far without having made one.

Overall, I am very happy with how this doll base turned out and I think that with a small tweak to the bum shape, I will be completely satisfied with it.

As Moana does not have much of an outfit and her overall appearance is quite minimalist, I decided to focus on her accessories to bring her character to life. This gave me a chance to dig out and dust off my polymer clay to recreate her shell necklace.

In the making of this pattern, I also got to do something else that I have not done before – I used synthetic hair for Moana instead of yarn. It is a medium I have wanted to try but never got around to. With the need to create soft waves for Moana, it made for the perfect opportunity to give it a try. I used hair wefts as it is so much easier – as quicker to stitch or glue them to the head. I think the result is super cute and adds a new level of realism to the finished look. What about you? Would you give real hair or synthetic hair a try for your amigurumi?

Toddler Moana measures approximately 6.5 inches / 17cm tall.
