Ursula Crochet Pattern

Introducing Ursula. I had a lot of fun making this pattern and it was good practice in terms of contouring. I wanted to ensure that I included two key features – her protruding chin and her breasts. Neither had been attempted before so it took a bit of planning and trial and error. For a first attempt, I am over the moon with how she turned out. Hopefully, you can instantly tell who it is meant to be when you look at her. Unlike my Avery and Arlo doll patterns, this one does not require a wire through the head and body to keep the head up. Fortunately, her neck is wide enough to support the head unaided. I did decide to wire her arms and legs though. I thought that manoeuvrability would be a nice touch for this character – especially when it came to the tentacles. I did contemplate needle felting the eyes and mouth on but in the end, stuck to my trusty t-shirt printer paper method to save time. Though I did decide to needle felt the hair to keep with some realism. This is optional because you can just choose your preferred method. Included is a downloadable PDF with the template for Ursula’s Eyes and mouth. Just remember that if you use a different weight yarn or size of hook you will need to scale it up or down accordingly. • 4ply yarn in lilac and black (I used Scheepjes Catona in 399 Lilac Mist & 110 Jet Black)
• 2mm crochet hook

ABBREVIATIONS:

• MR# – magic ring with the specified number of single crochets
• SC – single crochet (double crochet English)
• INC – single crochet increase
• #in1 – the specified number of SC in the same stitch (i.e. 3in1)
• DEC – invisible decrease
• *_______* X# – repeat sequence within the asterisks the specified number of times e.g. *SC, INC* x6)
• FLO – front loop only
• BLO – back loop only
• CC – colour change
• CH – chain stitches
• CH1T – chain a stitch then turn your work
• SS – slip stitch
• ST/STS – stitch/stitches
• FO – fasten off
