In order to make my King Triton, I just used the doll base pattern for my Arlo doll and made some alterations to make the tail. Below is the pattern to crochet the tail as well as how I customised the doll.
I was not happy with the way that he turned out at first because I wanted his chest to be broader and more muscular. However, once I was done with my customisation I was much happier and feel that it worked out in the end. The only reason that I did not frog it and start again is that with the babies I just didn’t have the time. As I have said before sometimes as you are making things it doesn’t look right but if you keep on going until the end the finished project gives such a different result.
Also, something that I did differently with this project is that I needle felted on the hair, beard and eyebrows. I felt like it would give King Triton a more authentic look. This would not be a good option if your King Triton is intended as a toy to be played with. mine is just for display purposes so it is fine. If you prefer, however, you can just attach yarn for the hair as I have done in my previous projects. This would be a much more durable method.
Lastly, my King Triton’s eyes are more realistic than the original. I did consider copying his eyes exactly as they are in the pictures but felt that all the other dolls have realistic iron-on eyes so I wanted to make him the same.
