The second long-awaited pattern being released today is Luigi. Having already made Mario making this pattern was a lot more straight forward. I used my Mario pattern and just made some slight modifications. Luigi is taller and slimmer – as well as a different colour – but the method and everything else is the same. The only factor with Luigi that I am not happy with is the quality/thickness of the green yarn that I used. I am not sure which brand it is because I just grabbed it off my shelf and it had no label. However, it is thinner than the other yarns (Stylecraft and Hayfield) that I used. This resulted in the hat not being as big/full as Mario so it has a smaller and flatter appearance. Thankfully despite this small hiccup, I am still very happy with the overall look of Luigi. So the lesson here is to try and stick to the same brand of yarn for your project! In the tutorial below you will see that some of the pictures used are of Mario but I used them because they clearly depict what to do for Luigi too. The hands are made in the same way as Yoshi – if you have made him already. If you find it hard to see the pictures for doing the fingers you can take a look at the Yoshi hand tutorial pictures which are clearer to see. Like with Mario I also opted to needle felt on the eyebrows and moustache but have included the pattern for the crochet version. Luigi’s finished height using DK yarn with a 3mm hook is approximately 10.5″ tall. This is measured from his foot to the top of his hat. Materials
