Happy June!
This monthโs Mini Tier pattern is Zazu the hornbill bird from The Lion King.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When I started to crochet, I only had the light shade of blue which I decided to just use for Zazu. After a deep dive into my yarn stash, I managed to find the correct shade. So, my colours are inverted (i.e. light blue body/wings and medium blue eyelids). If you want to stay true to the original colours for Zazu just do medium blue body/wings with light blue eyelids.
The werenโt many opportunities for mixed media in this project so Zazu I all crocheted except for the felt accents for his eyebrows and mouth. (I did not have any light orange felt for the beak detail when I took the final pictures, so it is missing. I will update the pictures once I add it).
Zazuโs beak very nearly defeated me. It looked so simple at first but once I broke it down, I just could not visualise how I could make it work. Five attempts later I have my beak โ but it could do with a tiny tweak later down the line.
For the neck, I did not use craft wire to support it as it wide enough to support itself. However, if you want some added stability, you are more than welcome to use some craft wire for neck support.
Zazuโs overall measurements are approximately 6inches / 15cm tall (including the eyebrows) and 10inches / 25cm long (from the tip of the beak to the tip of the tail).
