Frog Naveen Crochet Pattern

There are three parts in total. you can watch part 1 here.  The pattern being released this month is Frog Naveen. It might look like a complicated and/or time consuming project at first glance but it actually is not. I too was misled because the first time I made it I had to continuously pull rows out and start again to get the shape that I wanted. However, when I made my second frog Naveen I surprised even myself with how straight forward it was. (Thank goodness that I drastically improved when it comes to writing patterns down!).   My first Frog Naveen was wired through the arms and legs. The way that I did this was by pushing the wire through the completed body. I bent over the ends so that they could not slip through the stitches. I pushed the wire through the arm and into the hand. The hands were stuffed but not too firmly. I lightly stuffed the arms – which made it easier to push the wire through. I then whip stitched the arms to the body. I did the same for the legs. I avoided over stuffing them, pushed the wire through and whip stitched to the body. I hope that the pictures provide you with a clear understanding. On the other hand, my second frog Naveen was not wired at all. His arms and legs are floppy so he cannot stand up on his own. Thankfully he can still stand up when propped up against something (see pictures below). Overall, the lack of wires has no effect on the look of the doll. I hope that the layout of this pattern is easy for you to follow. If for whichever reason you do have any troubles with it, I am always available to offer any assistance.

 

MATERIALS:

• 4PLY yarn (I used Scheepjes catona yarn in colours 395 – willow, 404 – english tea
• 2mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Fire retardant Fibrefill
• Brown felt
• White felt
• Black felt
• Green felt
• Dark brown felt
• Scissors
• 2-3mm craft wire (optional)
• Pliers (optional)
• Stitch marker (optional)

The pattern can be scaled up and down by using a different yarn weight and hook. Below is a guide of the various sizes that I have made:

• Scheepjes Catona 4ply yarn with a 2mm hook: 9 inches long
• Stylecraft Special DK yarn with a 3mm hook: 12 inches long

ABBREVIATIONS:

• MR6 – magic ring with the specified number of single crochets
• SC – single crochet (double crochet English)
• INC – increase
• 3in1 – 3SC into the same stitch
• DEC – invisible decrease
• SS – slip stitch
• *_______* X# – repeat sequence within the asterisks the specified number of times e.g. *SC, INC* x6)
• CH# – chain specified number of stitches
• CH1T – chain 1 stitch then turn your work
• ST/STS – stitch/stitches
• FO – fasten off
