Freebie Friday: Roo Crochet Pattern

Happy Freebie Friday!

The freebie pattern this week is Winnie the Pooh’s Roo.

As with my Rabbit amigurumi, I ended up using Scheepjes cotton aran yarn with a 4mm crochet hook because I did not have the colours that I needed in a 4ply yarn.  However, I actually prefer using the aran yarn compared to doubling on the 4ply yarn. Also for my original Roo I needle felted the nose, you can do the same or use the included crochet version below. The choice is entirely up to you.

Assembly:

It is quite difficult to describe in a written format how to attach the arms and legs but I have included pictures to serve as a guide. It is easier if you sew on all the parts for the head before you attach it to the body—such as the eyebrows, hair, ears and snout (connect the nose to the snout before you attach it to the head). Doing it this way allows you to hide where you tie off the black yarn and ends from the ears and snout at the back of the head where you connect the head and body. Before you connect the head and body remember to put the shirt on because you wont be able to get it on afterwards. For the ears, use a piece of paper to draw around the ear and cut off a 5mm border leaving an ear shape smaller than the ear. With the pink felt cut two of these shapes and attach with felt glue. After sew the ends together to give that curved shape (see picture 1). Next attach the arms, legs and tail and sleeves (I use the whip stitch but you can use whichever method is easier for you). I found it easier to pin the parts in place so I could sew them on symmetrically. Here are a few optional notes for you to use when assembling your Roo:

  • Ears attach with the bottom attachment in-line with the eyes and top attachment in-line with the eyebrows. When I attach it, it is sort of a triangle as depicted in picture 2.
  • Eyebrows placed 3 and 4 rows above eyes. Centre snout in the middle of the face with the top directly in-line with bottom of the eyes (see picture 3 below and table adjacent).
  • Arms are right up next to the head (picture 5) it is important to attach the arms through the shirt and into the body otherwise it isn’t secure enough. The sleeves are attached over the arms and whip stitched to the shirt (picture 9) and legs just below the shirt with 4 rows either side of the centre point of the body (see pictures 6 & 7).
  • Tail is positioned in the centre between the legs (see picture 8).

I hope that you had fun creating this little cutie and are enjoying my Freebie Fridays. As mentioned in previous posts my main focus will now be on original designs and not so heavily focused on copyright characters. To keep the free patterns being posted feel free to donate any amount as a thank you for all the hard work I put into creating, typing up and providing you with the patterns. This will go towards materials for new and exciting projects.

  1. Yes your patterns are in high demand, and according to a printout of another pattern I got for my sister there is a picture of the whole gang with Pooh including Kango with Roo and Christopher Robin would you know about them, they have Owl, Eeyore, Rabbit, Tigger and Piglet. Or would you know where I can find the pattern since you had told someone no Christopher Robin yet.
