Happy Freebie Friday my fellow crocheters!
24/05/2021 UPDATE: I have made a youtube tutorial to assist you if there are any parts of this written tutorial that you need help with. There are three parts in total, you can watch part 1 here.
Sorry for the late post. I was supposed to post this in the morning but my day has been hectic. I have now added the pictures that were missing and this post is ready to go.
I haven’t posted anything since I published my Owl pattern post which was the last in my Winnie the Pooh set. That’s not to say that I haven’t had any time to crochet. Any of you that follow me on Instagram would have seen all the projects that I have been busily steam-powering through. Unfortunately, I have just not gotten round to writing about what I have been doing. Good news is that the Easter holidays start on Monday. I plan to put time aside to write some posts and catch you all up with my craftiness.
So, as the title suggests, I am releasing a new series as part of my Freebie Friday pattern release. This Looney Tunes themed set will again contain 6 characters: Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Porky Pig, Marvin Martian, Speedy Gonzales and Foghorn Leghorn. The set is not complete as of yet and I still have 3 characters to finish. However, if you keep checking back on my Instagram page you will get to see what the other three characters look like before their Freebie Friday pattern release.
I can’t remember what prompted me to start this series. Whatever the reason, it’s been lovely reminiscing because it brings back so many happy memories. And let’s be honest, they don’t make quality cartoons like they used to! Though, anyone that knows me is aware of my love for most things old school. It could be due in part to me romanticising my childhood. This happens to people a lot when they think about the past, you unknowingly recreate and rewrite it a little in your mind. Nonetheless, I feel nothing but warm fuzziness crocheting and looking at these crocheted cuties.
Finally, I am moving on the feature presentation – first up in the series is Elmer Fudd. My original Elmer was made using Scheepjes Catona yarn and that is what this pattern is based on. The pictures in this tutorial, on the other hand, are from the aran version of Elmer that I made. Fortunately, this will not be an issue because whichever yarn and hook size you are using the outcome will be the same. The only differing factor will be the overall size of the finished product.

Once you have finished crocheting all the parts for your Elmer it is time to begin assembling him. Use the picture of the completed Elmer below to sew on all the various parts. I used black yarn for the eyebrows and black and white yarn for the eyes which I then stuck on using felt glue. Using 4 ply yarn will create an Elmer that is the perfect size for a bag charm. My currently incomplete second Elmer (in the picture above) was crocheted using aran yarn and is the perfect size for a small toy. I am giving all the aran sized Looney Tunes characters to my mum because she has demanded a set to put on her shelves. [UPDATE 31/03/2020: You can also check out the assembly video below]
This Elmer Fudd pattern has been crocheted by me twice and both times it has turned out well. Hopefully, the pattern is easy for you to follow and there are no mistakes. However, if for example you come across any errors or are finding the pattern difficult to follow then please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am always available and happy to offer my assistance.
Stay tuned because next weeks Freebie Friday post will be Yosemite Sam. Yosemite requires some needle felting so I will be attempting to do a needle felting tutorial video.
Any of you that are familiar with creating your own crochet patterns and typing them up will be aware of the amount of time and energy that goes into it. I love to crochet known characters and see the end results of my interpretations. Showcasing my creations to fellow crochet enthusiasts inspires me to continue and keep coming up with more creative ideas. At the same time showing off my ideas and not providing my supporters with a means to recreate it seems cruel to me. This is why I decided to instead of making my copyrighted character patterns unavailable to you altogether I make them available through my Freebie Fridays. In order to keep character Freebie Fridays going please donate any small amount to show your support. This money will go towards my time and supplies for future freebie projects.

Following this Looney Tunes set, I am hoping to start working on the pattern posts for my Disney’s Princess and the Frog set. Those of you that have seen this set are aware that it is a very detailed set which will require a lot of time to create a tutorial for. After which I am planning on starting my Beauty and the Beast set and steadily working my way through all the Disney Princesses. I hope to be able to make all of these patterns available to you for free in my Freebie Friday posts so please do show your appreciation by donating. Thank you so much in advance for all of your support.
Until the next post, happy crocheting!
Chantelle x
I have to say that he’s perfect! You’ve completely captured his face and look. Well done!
Thank you so much 🙂
