11/06/2020 UPDATE: I have made a youtube tutorial to assist you if there are any parts of this written tutorial that you need help with. There are three parts in total, you can watch part 1 here.
I have received a lot of support through this journey and I want to thank my supporters for boosting my passion and ensuring that I keep the drive to continue. Below is my Ray Firefly pattern which is quite simple for those of you who have experience making amigurumi. I have included pictures of each completed part. At a later date there will also be a Youtube tutorial for those of you who prefer to crochet with visual cues. This will be my first tutorial video, so I have some trial and error to do but promise to keep investigating ways to improve and start producing outstanding tutorials for you.
An area that I still need to improve upon is taking pictures at vital stages as I crochet. This causes me to waste so much time having to crochet everything twice so that I can take the necessary pictures. It does have some benefits though. For example, it gives me the opportunity to see any errors that I have made and to make any necessary changes. This way the overall quality of my amigurumi products and the related tutorials are better as a result. Therefore, I will continue to crochet everything twice and for each Patreon goal that I reach, I will do a giveaway to a very lucky supporter. My current Patreon goal is to giveaway my
COMPLETED Princess and the Frog set to one lucky Patreon if I reach 30 pledges.
MATERIALS:
- 4PLY yarn (I used Scheepjes catona yarn in colours 512 – lime, 522 – primrose, 249 – saffron, 395 – willow, 387 – dark olive, 130 – old lace, 110 – jet black, 189 – royal orange and 525 – fir
- 2mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Fire retardant Fibrefill
- Scissors
- Green garden wire (or alternative)
- Stitch marker (optional)
The pattern can be scaled up and down by using a different yarn weight and hook. Below is a guide of the various sizes that I have made:
- Scheepjes Catona 4ply yarn with a 2mm hook: 3.5 inches long
- Stylecraft Special DK yarn with a 3mm hook: 4.75 inches long
- Stylecraft Special DK yarn (tripled) with a 4.5mm hook: 7.5 inches long
ABBREVIATIONS:
- MR6 – magic ring with the specified number of single crochets
- SC – single crochet (double crochet English)
- HDC – half double crochet (half treble crochet English)
- DC – double crochet (treble crochet English)
- INC – increase
- hdcINC – half double crochet increase
- dcINC – double crochet increase
- DEC – invisible decrease
- SS – slip stitch
- FLO – front loop only
- BLO – back loop only
- *_______* X# – repeat sequence within the asterisks the specified number of times e.g. *SC, INC* x6)
- CC – colour change yarn
- CH# – chain specified number of stitches
- CH1T – chain 1 stitch then turn your work
- ST/STS – stitch/stitches
- FO – fasten off
