Freebie Friday: Lumpy Crochet Pattern

Happy Freebie Friday!

The freebie pattern this week is Winnie the Pooh’s Lumpy the Heffalump.

With Lumpy’s feet, I originally chose to stick lavender felt on his paws because I did not have the correct colour yarn to crochet it. However, if you have the right colour yarn you can crochet rows 1-3 of the feet in your separate chosen colour yarn and then do a colour change to the main body yarn. I hope that what I said makes sense to you.

TAIL:
Using dark purple yarn

Make a pom-pom for the tail ensuring to leave a long enough piece of yarn to attach it to the body.

Assembly:

It is quite difficult to describe in a written format how to attach the arms and legs but I have included pictures to serve as a guide. Although it is not depicted it is easier if you sew on the eyebrows, trunk (do stitch detail before you attach), ears, hair and stitching detail first. This way you can hide where you tie off the black yarn at the back of the head where you connect the head and body. After you connect head to the body attach the arms, legs and tail (I use the whip stitch but you can use whichever method is easier for you). I found it easier to pin the parts in place so I could sew them on symmetrically. Here are a few optional notes for you to use when assembling your Lumpy:

  • ·  Using picture 1 as a guide attach the trunk and copy the stitching details.
  • ·  On a piece of paper draw around the ears and then draw around on the inside of the ear outline leaving a 5mm perimeter (see picture 2). Cut out the smaller ear shape and use a template to cut out two of these shapes using pink felt (see picture 3). Attach the ears as show in picture 4 then copy for other side.
  • ·  Placing the smaller hair piece on top of the larger piece attach to hair at the centre point on top of the head.
  • ·  Using picture 5, with black yarn copy the stitching details on the belly and using picture 8 copy the stitching details on Lumpy’s bottom. Attach the pom-pom in the middle of the stitched circle.
  • ·  Attach the body to the head (see picture 6)
  • ·  For the feet, do the same as with the ears and draw around on a piece of paper. Trim down a little smaller, cut out and then use as a template to cut the circle shape using lilac felt. Using dark purple yarn copy the stitch details on the feet (see picture 10).
  • ·  Attach the legs and arms. There are roughly 3 row between the arm and leg (see pictures 7-9).
